Our family is really interested in going to Ireland. We have a 3 year old and a baby. When is the best time to go there? If you want to see Blarney Castle which air port is the closest to it? What are some other things to see and do there? Thanks for the info!

I think that is a fairly ridiculous statement about the Blarney stone considering the fact that there is an attendant at the stone while it is open. I agree that there are a lot of things that I would see first but what you claim makes no sense.

Cork is the nearest airport - but is there a reason Blarney is your only &quot;must&quot;?

Nearest airport for Blarney is Cork.

If you're flying from the U.S., the closest is Shannon. You can find intra-European flights to Cork but I don't know of any TransAtlantic flights that go into Cork.

Oops.. right, did not think about the OP probably coming from the US. Shannon it is, of course.

I would also strongly suggest that you read some of the trip reports here. And either buy yourself a good guide book or borrow one from the library.

Those things will give you a much better idea of what Ireland has to offer. It's very difficult to make suggestions for someone without knowing something about what their interests are.

Unless you're flying AerLingus and can connect directly onto Cork via Dublin in your original ticket...

Anyway, Blarney is a matter of personal taste. I think the gardens around the castle are well done, but the castle ruin itself (especially chock full of lines of tourists waiting around) isn't that interesting in comparison with other sights.

Assuming that you do probably arrive in the west/south-west, I'd put the time as better spent doing any scenic drive; the Lakes of Killarney; Dingle; Cahir and Cashel; etc.
