It would help if we had:

1) specific dates as hotel prices can vary
2) what you care most about in a hotel: room size, location, price, full service, etc.

For some random dates I plugged in, most of the hotels are under $300. The Marriott and some other upscale hotels are closer to $400, but the Skt Petri (fabulous location) comes in at $251. A lesser hotel, but also with a fabulous location, The Phoenix shows up in the $160-range. Note that many of the hotels do not have AC in the rooms.

The Admiral
The Square
Marriott
The Alexandra
Any of the Guldsmeden hotels eg Babette
The Phoenix
71 Nyhavn
You can do the legwork to see if any of these fit your budget.

For restaurants, Restaurant Radio, Brasserie Degas, Cafe Sogenfri, top floor of Magasin, Geranium, Den Lille Røde Cottage, Aamans, Grøften. Some will need reserving. Check their websites for prices & menus etc.

We had a good stay at the Scandic Front a couple years ago and would definitely stay there again.

thanks for info. Booked the phoenix for post cruise but realize I also need pre cruise for 2 nights. July 27-29. Would like to try another hotel than the one we are staying after cruise. Close to main part of town. Someone recommended a canal cruise. Have you done that?

sorry, we also would like breakfast at hotel, no A/C is OK with us. I think central location is good and if they offer shuttle to ort, that would be great. If I have some names, I can contact them about shuttle service.....appreciate it

I’ve stayed at the Front, the Admiral, and the Marriott (I’ve spent the most nights at the Marriott). The Admiral and Front are in a better location (except for Tivoli), but the Marriott rooms are much nicer.

The Front is, to me, just okay. It is a great location but the hotel itself could be anywhere. The Admiral is a converted warehouse. It makes some of the rooms awkward, but it has character. They have always had the best food and beverage program of those three too.

I've stayed in all of the ones I have mentioned (only Babettes of the Guldsmeden chain though) and many more besides.71 Nyhavn is similar to the Admiral in the sense that some rooms have an awkward shape. I'd probably go for the Alexandra if you want to try something different to the Phoenix, or Babettes or Axel Guldsmeden or Skt Petri. The Marriott rooms facing the water are the nicest ones.
Some of the restaurants I suggested might be closed for summer holidays at the end of July. One of the frustrating things about travelling late July in Scandinavia, so if you want a specific one, best to check that it is open.
What sort of hotel shuttle are you asking about?

Odin’s restaurant list does miss out on Koføed, which I love. Also Geist. Geranium is among the top ten restaurants I’ve ever been to, but is absurdly expensive.

I'll second Geist and suggest consideration of Hotel Sankt Anne in same area as Admiral (Nyhavn) Recently remodeled (so suffering from lower ratings from before remodel bringing down their average) with nice breakfast, pleasant rooms and public spaces plus outdoor area. We now prefer it to the somewhat more expensive Admiral.

Thanks to all the good info above. I have also been looking for hotels July 1 - 4... found some with good reviews but then found they were in the 'red light district' although the reviewer said it wasn't a concern for safety, etc. Found that odd but curious if any of you have anything to add. The ones in particular were Scandic Webbers and First Hotel Mayfair (got those names from a cruise board). Thanks again for the info above. The Guldsmeden chain looks great - just not sure if they will be the most convenient getting from the airport since we won't be taking a taxi - train and then a 10-15 walk with luggage...

The red light district is the area behind the train station. It isn’t unsafe (nowhere in CPH really is) but there is a homeless shelter in the neighborhood and the street directly behind the hotel is known as a wino gathering spot. It kind of comes down to how comfortable you are with a bit of grittiness. When I lived in Copenhagen, I routinely went there for shopping (it is the best place to get Asian vegetables) or to eat. It is also where many of the ethnic restaurants are and is near Kødbyen (the old meat market) which has some hip bars and restaurants.

The downside is that, aside from Tivoli, it isn’t as convenient for touristic stuff.

FWIW, Babette is within walking distance from Østerport station, which will get you to/from the airport. It is also closer to the port.

Thanks for the info - that helps tremendously !
