Need help deciding where to go!!

I've received some great advice from Fodorites in the past so now I turn to you all once again.

I want to go to Europe this summer, but I'm not sure where I want to go.

I've made two previous trips: I went to Spain (Barcelona, Madrid and Ibiza), Italy (Florence and Rome) and the Netherlands (Amsterdam) last summer, and I went to Germany (Munich and Frankfurt), Switzerland (Lucerne and Zurich) and Austria (Vienna and Salzburg) when I was 15.

I loved all those places, and specifically would like to return to Italy, Spain and Switzerland some day.

I have two weeks to spend over there (I'm going with a friend), and I'd like to fill that time with plenty of culture and fun.

Should I go back to some of the places I've already been?? Or should I seek out new countries??

I'd be interested to hear what people would do or where they would go if they had two weeks in Europe.

I'm probably looking at 3-4 destinations for the two weeks.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Hi

Two weeks in Italy is always fun.

How about a week in London and a week in Paris?

You haven't been to France ? I'd do a week in northern Italy (Venice? & the veneto) and a week in France. Or northern Italy & the lakes in Switzerland.

By 3-4 destinations do you mean 3 to 4 cities/towns? If so, I'd suggest the UK. Or if you want to go back to Italy, pick a different part of it, like 3 0r 4 locations in Sicily, or maybe Venice and some other parts of the north. Or if you'd like to go back to Spain, I'd suggest Andalucia.

If you mean 3 or 4 COUNTRIES, I have no suggestions.

I'd love to spend all my time Italy. I had a great time over there and, being Italian, it is a place I felt at home.

The only thing is that there is just too much that I want to see in Europe for me to spend the whole time in one country.

That was one of the ideas I had as well. Although I'd like to spend some time on the Amalfi Coast in Italy.

But I was thinking about a week in Italy and then travel by train (for the scenery) to Switzerland.

I didn't nearly have enough time in Florence last summer (only 24 hours), so I'd like to return there.

Maybe 4 days on the Amalfi Coast, 3 days in Florence, followed by a train trip to St. Moritz or Interlaken, then maybe some time in Lucerne.

How does that sound??

Good morning, keiston827
I would take the two weeks and decide one country for the period, this would
save on transport from one place to the other..Assumingly you are arriving in Xurich would take the train to Luzern, with Pilatus. Titlis or Rigi you must have missed some, along with
the town of Engelberg and those arround\the Lake as well as the steamers on the lake itself. From there would rail to Interlaken and the
Berneroberland, definately would stay
in Grindelwald, Murren orWengen and with all there is to see 4-5 days could
be very reasonable. By rail to Zermatt
and then to Lugano to give you the different taste of CH. Probably would
then return to Geneva via Montreux for
the return home... A Northern Italy would possibly visit Milano, the Lakes
Venice, Padua, Verone, Bologna and also
the Dolomites, Cortina d'Ampezzo.

Amalfi-Florence-Switzerland sounds like far too much long-distance traveling for a two-week trip.

Better two-week combinations:
Florence, plus smaller Siena, plus smaller cities and towns in Tuscany, plus Umbria, or

Amalfi coast, Naples, archeological sites, plus part of Sicily, or

Switzerland, plus parts of northern Italy (but I wouldn't choose thios option myself)

Oh, Kelston, that is truly the million dollar question! The more you travel, the harder the decision becomes.

How about a compromise? One week in places you have visited before, and one week in new places. If you wanted something a little different, you could do something like Italy/Slovenia/Croatia.
