Need advice regarding buying train tickets.

I will be in Rome and taking the train to Florence. We'll bus to Siena and then take the train back to Rome (over a two week period). Should I purchase my train tickets ahead of time or can I just buy them the day of when we want to leave?

Thanks.

I'd say buy them there, the day you want to travel.

buy them there as soon as you know where/when.

I can buy them anywhere right, not just at the station?

You'll see travel agents that are computer-linked to the ralways, so you don't necessarily have to stand in line at a train station. But note that you don't have to be at Roma Termini, it could be another station, they're all computer-linked.

Now if you want to take the fat train that requires seat reservations, I recommend doing it the day before.

Personally I found it easier to book my train reservations in advance on www.trenitalia.com, print the reservation then just board the train and show the print out to the conductor. Not standing in line, no looking for a travel agent and no worries.
