Need advice on Paris Hotels

My husband and I are traveling to Paris for the first time and need some advice on where to stay. We want a cool, nice, safe area with a clean rooms - preferrably around $100 per person per night. Has anyone heard about these hotels or do you have other recs?

- Sully St. Germain
- California St. Germain
- Hotel Familia
- Hotel des Grand Ecoles

Yes, quite a few people have stayed at these hotels. There are many comments here if you do a "search" for each hotel in the box above.

Check out the Hotel du Danube. But: when are you going to be in Paris, and will you want a/c?

I stayed in the Familia 5 years ago and it was a clean, tourist class hotel in a good location. I recommended it to a friend a year ago and he left after one night saying it must have gone downhill. I am not sure if he is picky or if it has gone down. Though the proprieter was so nice and helpful, you may want to talk with someone who has been recently. This may be a bit over your budget, but check out Rivoli Notre Dame in the Marais ... simply charming!

The California St. Germain is quite nice and clean, but the rooms are tight squeezes. It's a fine place to stay tho, and you probably won't be spending a whole lot of time in the room anyway.
The area its in - the Latin Quarter - is great. Lots of restaurants, jazz clubs, shops and markets. The Pantheon is right in the neighborhood, and it's a short walk over to Notre Dame and Ile de la Cite.

I'm a huge fan of Grandes Ecoles. We spent two weeks there and loved it. Pricewise, it'll cost far less than $100 per person. I believe the most expensive rooms are around 120 euro total per night.
