ashish, I had a quick look at tripadvisor and clicked on the B&B section (tend to small hotels or rooms in people's houses) and there are some but you are right expensive.

You don't mention how small your budget is but it might be cheaper to stay in a hostel in Paris and travel back and forth to Versailles - which has limited options.

You might consider also renting in places near Versailles that have good access by public transport. Try googling "louer chambre versailles" and you'll get many results. Here are just a few:
