Elegant restaurant near Versailles?

I had heard of a restaurant where you could dine on a terrace overlooking the gardens of Versailles--does anyone know of such a place? I have not come across it in any of the usual sources. As usual, thank you for your help.

This is a little dated (from 1999). I don't know if it fits the bill, but it lists a couple of restaurants in Versailles. I just came across the article earlier.

It may be interesting to you.

When thinking about places for a business dinner a few years ago, I came across Les Trois Marches. We dined elsewhere but I recall it was very highly regarded and one of the top in the area.

I'm sure if you do a google search with Trois Marches Versailles review you'll come across imformation.

Les Trois Marches is the first listed in the Times article. I quote a very brief description:

The Hotel Trianon Palace, Eisenhower's headquarters after World War II, which was lavishly renovated in the early 1990's, sits on the edge of the park of the chateau and aims to make its guests feel like latter-day Sun Kings -- in its rooms, spas and three restaurants, of which the jewel is Les Trois Marches.

The dining room, which has the air of a winter garden, gives onto a park, itself an extension of the palace grounds. The room is bright and elegant, with high ceilings, crystal chandeliers trimmed in gold and blue, comfortable armchairs and well-spaced tables set with fine linen and crystal. The young serving staff is a bit stiff but well-meaning. And I loved having my pocketbook carefully placed on a footstool next to my chair. Understandably, the fee for such treatment is royal too.

etc.

Menus at $48 (weekday lunch), $109 and $127 (Sunday only). About $300 for two.

(Bear in mind these are 1999 prices.)

There are several elegant restaurants near Versailles. The information office there has a list of all the restaurants, etc. You might try their website. Within Versailles, I had a great lunch on a huge outdoor terrace that overlooked the Petite Venise canal/lake. There was also inside dining, but I caught it on a fabulous day. It is also popular with the French (not just tourists, I mean). This restaurant was French, and nearby, there was also an Italian restaurant. To get to the restaurants, take the little shuttle train that goes to the Petite Trianon. One of the stops is where the restaurant is located. I didn't have reservations. Check their website.
