Too lonely for a solo traveler to stay in a hotel room all night, so I want to try a nice reasonable hotel, with a full service lounge or bar to sit in at night and just relax with a drink.

Open to suggestions.

When I go to Paris I usually rent a an apartment instead of an hotel room. I found it much nicer and you can rent the apartment for the same price of an hotel room.
The company I have used has very interesting apartments in Montmartre one of them is called Million Dollar Views, it is in Montmartre and in the street below it there are fantastic brasseries and a lot of life till very late at night.

At the Le Meridien Montparnasse, they have a piano bar, and lots of interesting people wandering in and out (African dignitaries in African garb, Hasidic diamond dealers, Japanese tourists, British families, etc.). You might do well with a large, business-oriented hotel like that, as the lounge and bar will definitely be full-service and have lots of people. I think Le Meridien Etoile has a well-known jazz bar.

We like the bar at the Meurice; you can check out the menu on their web site. Serice is professional and inobtrusive.

Take a look at the Hotel Pont Royal in the 7th. Nice 4 star and very nice adjoining bar, plus the restaurant--L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon on the premises.

The Hotel d'Aubusson seemed "reasonable" to me and has live jazz music in the bar at night.

I think there are a lot of good ideas here, except for the one about renting an apt. (anywhere, let alone Montmartre, which I think is a bad idea in your situation). Single travelers need more interaction with people, I think, and get it in a hotel, especially if you don't know the language or city. I travel alone a lot and actually often prefer a nice hotel to an apt. And for solo travelers, apts are often more expensive than a nice hotel, at least for the same level of comfort.

I was going to recommend the Aubusson, also, as they do have a good jazz bar, and the location is very central so will be good for your purposes. Also in St Germain, the hotel Lenox St Germain has a popular bar. I think a large business-y hotel like the Meridien would also be a good idea, as in a lot of smaller hotels, even if they have a bar, it isn't really the kind of place you want to hang out for hours and not many people frequent it. It's often just a few chairs and small.
