Need a hotel recomendation in Naples
I will be in Italy the end of November. I was planning on staying 5 nights in Sorrento and then on to Rome but I am now considering staying in Naples a couple of nights because there is so much I want to see in Naples and close to Naples I feel I will waste less time in transit.

I will be traveling with my 10 year old daughter and I would like a nice clean hotel conviently located to public transportation. Also I know of Naples reputation so I would like a relatively safe area. I do not plan to be out late at night but I am sure we will be out after dark.

Thanks so much for any advice.

April

We stayed at Parker's very recently, a week ago. The room was nice and the hotel staff, while busy with a conference being held during our stay, was helpful and spoke good english. The hotel's location, however, was not ideal in my view. There is nothing in the immediate neighborhood to do, and to get to the shopping street (I forget the name), it was necessary to walk down a dilapidated stairway and walk a good ten minutes. Hotel breakfast was excellent (and great view of Naples and Vesuvius), but I would caution against having dinner there, the food was average and the service was positively awful.

Not sure if the other luxury hotels (e.g. Excelsior) are better than Parker's.

I stayed at the Excelsior last month and it was very nice. Very nice room, good service. It's right on the water in a row of other hotels, and the area seemed safe at night. You could walk to some attractions (e.g. Palazzo Reale).

But, I don't know how convenient to public transportation it is. It was about a 10 minute cab ride from the train station

The Parteno fits your needs. Right around the corner from Piazza Victoria, a major bus/tram hub. Great area and within walking of eateries, shops, attractions. See:
www.parteno.it

Hi April,

We stayed at Hotel Rex right near Hotel Excelsior and really liked it. Our room was large and clean. the staff was helpful. There is a bus stop nearby but we walked a lot. I also looked at a Mercure hotel that may be closer to public transportation.check out:
www.accorhotels.com
We loved Naples.
