There were American and Canadian forces personnel at a hotel called "Laterna Verde", if I remember this name. This is aways from downtown Naples but transiting personnel were put into this place. There's a nice pool, very good restuarant, and there are small cabin type of rooms. Check with the military people and they can send you to this place.
There is bus service in that area, if I remember. Walking from that area isn't great. Having a car is much better.

Hi wordteacher, we always really liked the Jolly Ambassador Hotel which overlooks the Bay of Naples. I do not know what their rates are now and what price range you are thinking about.
The Ambassador always had good size rooms and certainly very clean rooms and it is located in a good area. Imagine you can find it via Google. Best wishes.

Hi wordteacher,
I stayed at Hotel Pinto Storey for one night in Sept. Nicely remodeled 3* on the 5th floor of an old building in the Chiaia District, very nice neighborhood. Great location, just across the tiny Piazza Amadeo from the Metro stop of the same name.
You can find it on venere.com

Well - NSA Naples is co-located with Naples airport, so figuring out your distances from there should be pretty easy.
The Holiday Inn Centro is decent. It's within 10 minutes walk to the train and bus station. There is a shuttle that runs from the airport (and the front gate of the base) to and from the hotel.
