Nearest train stop near Rome airport

We are returning to Rome from Venice by train from the Santa Lucia station to the Rome Termini station. We will be flying out of FCO airport in the morning. Would there be a train stop closer to the airport where we could get off and not go all the way into the Termini Station. If we go all the way into Termini, can we take a train back out to Fiumicino. We would like to stay in a hotel near Fiumicino. Any ideas of nearby hotels? Thanks in advance.

Hi P,

The Leonardo Express train goes directly from Termini to the airport. It takes about 30 - 40 minutes and leaves every 30 minutes, if I remember correctly.

Why stay at an airport hotel when you could spend your last night in Roma and have your hotel arrange a private driver for you for about 50E? It's only a short drive, about 40 minutes.

All the fast Eurostar trains from Venice only stops in Termini in Rome.

There's the Leonardo Express from Termini to FCO which runs every half an hour and takes just over half an hour.

The other train to FCO is a commuter train. You can get it from Tiburtina. But the fast Eurostars from Venice don't stop there.

Thanks for your help. We are staying in Rome 6 days at the start of our trip and have an early morning flight out, so want to be near the airport.

I take that you have already purchased your plane tickets so that an open-jaw ticket to fly back from Venice is not an option.

Hi P,

You might want to consider the Holiday Inn EUR parc medici. They have a shuttle to the airport - about 10 min ride.

We have also stayed at the Holiday Inn which Ira mentioned above. It was nice and had a free shuttle to the airport. We took the train there, and the station where we got off appeared to be in the middle of a field. Fortunately I saw the sign for the HI right away (though it was through some trees!) and we walked there without problems. There was a train strike at the time, so maybe we got off at an infrequently used stop, since not all trains were running. The hotel was only a short walk, though, so it was likely the closest. Sorry I can't remember the station name. Have fun. PJK

We are returning to Rome, as we could not get a non-stop flight to Chicago from Venice. I would rather return to Rome than hassle with another airport stop in todays airport confusion. Thanks for the Holiday in suggestion.

Hi pngmartino

There are 2 Hilton properties convenient to FCO: a Hilton hotel that is directly connected to the terminals and train station and a Hilton Garden Inn that is a shuttle bus ride away, but still in the immediate vicinity of the airport.

Have stayed at the Hilton, it's fine and extremely convenient.

Instead of taking the train from Venice to FCO, you might consider flying on Air One. One way fares are currently as low as 60 EUR one way all in. They have a flight leaving Venice at 18:45, arriving in FCO at 19:45. You would arrive at VCE airport in plenty of time by catching the ATVO airport bus from Piazzale Roma at 16:50 (you could even take the next bus at 17:20 and make your flight). If you took the train, you would need to leave Santa Lucia at 14:38 to reach FCO at approx. the same time.
www.flyairone.it
http://www.atvo.it/orari/pdf_airport/mpolovenezia.pdf for bus schedule to VCE
www.trenitalia.com for train schedules (departure station: Venezia S.L., arrival station: Fiumicino Aeroporto)

Hope this helps,
Andre
