naples to positano

i am making a 3 day stop in positano. my itinerary includes me starting in florence, going to positano for 3 days, and then to rome for my flight home. i was planning on taking the train from florence to naples. is it worth getting a car service from naples to my hotel in positano? if so, what is the usual cost and should I reserve the car service before I arrive at the train station in naples? i am staying at the hotel miramare and they said it would require an additional train and bus ride to the hotel once I reach the station in naples. i am worried about carrying my luggage all that distance- any advice would be much appreciated!

We paid about 100E two years ago from Naples-Positano. I can highly recommend a driver we've used many times for pickups in Naples. He is Giovanni Gargiulo and he can be reached at: tourofitaly.com.

You can also try a new driver who has posted lots of helpful info on this site. His name is Francesco Marapese and he can be reached at:[email protected].

We are using a driver next week from Naples airport to Positano. His name is Renatto Cuomo (www.cuomonet.it)
He is charging us 75 euro for two people.
We got his name from fellow Fodorites.
Give him a look.

The above responses are good advice - was just in Positano four days ago, but we drove. I write because there is a restaurant that you MUST go to. It is off the beaten path, on your way to Fornillo beach (still in Positano) it's name is Lo Guarracino. My husband and I had eaten at Le Sirenuse the night before and spent a load of money - then we went to this place and I believe the food is superior - and the view - on a cliff overlooking only the sea - is one of the best. It is a cozy, casual family run type place frequented by locals and tourists. Go there, you won't be sorry. BTW, I had the Puttanesca (for my primi) and my husband had clam linguine - amazing portion size and flavor.

Hi Allison,

We also used Renato Cuomo, and were quite pleased with his service.

The other way is to take the Circumvesuviana commuter train (lower level of the Naples Central station) to Sorrento and the SITA bus, across the street from the Sorrento station to Positano. The Miramare should provide you a porter to the hotel.

I recommend that you do not take the Circumvesuviana - this is a tough, hot, crowded ride in a train frequented by pickpockets. And you have to drag your suitcases from one train station to the other. We took a hydrofoil back to Naples and it was a much pleasanter trip. Pricier than the train but less than a limo.

I agree with the other poster who suggests going with a personal driver. I think it will be a much more pleasant and less chaotic experience with luggage in tow.

Also just wanted to mention that the 100E we were charged two years ago by tourofitaly.com was for FOUR people.

Ehm,...One advice: just beware of too low fares! Some drivers sell for a lower price just to control more transfers and get more clients, then they go in "overbooking", and they need to ask favours to other drivers, so they might end up not being able to find a driver and NOT showing up! So as old romans used to say : "In medio virtus!"...: find something not too expensive, but not even too cheap, or you'll get cheap service ;-)

thanks to everyone for their advice. I used Renalto Cuomo as recommended by several people above and while we did not personally meet renalto, his drivers were highly professional and well worth the price of 80 euros for two people from naples to positano. If you have luggage or are traveling a distance, I would certainly recommend taking a car service from naples as opposed to taking two trains and a sita bus...
