Granada.

The Alhambra, the Albayzin and the Arabic tea houses.

Food choices not great but Bodegas Castaneda was a lovely tapas bar.

Also, just answer his question (i.e. in the last 12 months) and stop with the pedantics.

Answer it if you like, but it would be nice IF the OP came back and clarified what he really wants . . . and why

(Plus my favorite city isn't in his listed countries so he likely isn't interested - and neither is Granada)

ROTFLMAO

pgriffin, you didn't answer the question. Granada does NOT fit the question. So why are you berating others? If you didn't have an answer, why did YOU answer?

Why are some people so mean on these boards? Lighten up people, we are all just interested in travel, and learning more about the places we would like to travel to.
Just my 2 cents!

He said Europe. That four country stuff is conjecture.

Now I'm preparing my third answer - Helsingor!

_______
Pedantic is an adjective not a noun, thus you used a word that does not exist. If you are going to admonish someone, at least admonish them correctly. Especially of you are going to accuse them of being pedantic.

I'll play the game
1--Montalcino--14 trips to Italy in last 18 years. Montalcino every time since we discovered it on trip 3.
2--it's in Italy. It's a perfect hill town. Views from hotel room are magnificent. Wine is outstanding. Food is great. People are better. ( Okay I violated the 3 thingy rule)
3--hard to say because the food is great in so many places which is why we stay there for dinners and Day trip for lunches.
Pick one--Re Mecchia. Husband and wife are great team.

1- Amsterdam
2- My favorite city physically and mentally in Europe plus they sell pot over the counter in coffeeshops - love the snack foods Frites and Bamis and Nasis, etc. always fun walking around - rarely a dull moment.
3- FEBO Snack Bar on Leidestraat - great junk food and can view the human zoo passing out front.

Santorini Island, Greece. Stunning views, many great restaurants, friendly people and very affordable. Great place for hiking. Stayed in town of Oia but also especially liked Fira. I will return soon.

I would say that Montalcino, Santorini -- not to mention London, Berlin or Venice or Prague -- are all places that many people would say are no longer the places they visited the first time, and some have changed dramatically in rather short period of time. for various reasons. Some get deformed by mass tourism while other simply reinvent themselves -- and sometimes positively so. A lot of people who wouldn't have like Torino or Bordeaux 10 years ago really enjoy themselves there today.

But it also comes up on the boards all the time that people "discovered" some wonderful place which was unspoiled by tourism when they were there but that has now changed very noticeably. And a year ago, a lot of people would have put Kiev at the top of their list of wonderful experiences.

Sorry Sandra, as I have said in past to your posts on my favorite subject, in my opinion Montalcino is same as it was in 2000. Maybe not the same as 1900. But probably was the same in 1900 as it was in 1800, except Mr Biondi Santi had "discovered" (your word) Brunello!

Piraeus, been there countless times, last visit 3 months ago.

I love Piraus because a)It offers lots of diversity with different districts, marinas, shopping areas and great options for eating and drinking b) Most foreigners use it only as a transit point and see only the port area, so rest of the city is left for a few of us that know better and there is a more "original" feeling c) It has a very interesting archeological museum where you can take your time and enjoy without the crowds of other, more popular museums d) Public transport is very handy to connect not only among different districts within Piraeus but to other interesting surrounding areas, including Athens center or a day trip to near by islands too .

Best restaurant (actually fish tavern) for unpretentious Greek food with a Kasos island cuisine twist, reasonably priced, on an area of Piraeus I am very fond of (Piraiki/Freattida) : To Akri .

PS: I know this forum is favored mostly by North Americans, but I thought it's an international website. Not all of us speak/write English fluently, so please do not be so strict on grammar/vocabulary errors .

1. Weisstannen, Switzerland
2. It's remote, it's a step back in time, I was surprised by its simplicity and yet fairy tale location at the end of a valley I'd never heard of.
3. I brought a picnic and went for a hike.
