BTilke, I love that Pink Martini album! In addition to the music, it also has -- as you know -- that wonderful cover art, with the young children roller-skating on the Trocadero Plaza with the Eiffel Tower in the background.

See: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p...=Asr3m962ogepc

And, if you like that band, you might also enjoy a band called 8 1/2 Souvenirs. Based in Austin, Texas, they're led by Olivier Giraud, a French expat singer/guitarist, and are inspired by European artists like Django Reinhardt, Serge Gainsbourg and Nino Rota. They have three albums out: Happy Feet, Souvonica, and Twisted Desire. Twisted Desire, their most recent, is also my favorite, kicking off with a wonderful swing version of ZZ Top's "Sharp Dressed Man." It also has great cover art.

See: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=Aldjn7i82g7or

Looks as if I need to listen to that Pink Martini CD! No clue yet!

Capo, just curious: Did you happen to see "Vatel" (with Dépardieu) in the meantime??
Saw "La Pianiste" with Isabelle Huppert. Heavy to digest, but nice classical music!

Capo: LOOOL!

"Vatel" is the name of Depardieu in the film! He's a big duck, yes.

And ducks do "watscheln" (instead of "walk") .
No idea how to name the sound they make at the same time!

PS: Santana and U2 will give concerts here next spring! Which one should I choose? Both quite expensive, some $30.-! Both?

Nessum Dorma only makes me think of the 90 World Cup.

For trips to Ireland, there is nothing else but The Pogues. Okay, I might throw in a little Saw Doctors, but usually, only my boy Shane will do.

The best music to travel by is Mozart.
The best music to plan travel by is Mozart. The best music to go to sleep by is Mozart or Vivaldi. It is serene, consistent, orderly, and does not require total concentration to enjoy.
Now, if I want immersion in another world, there are other composers, like Shostakovitch and Schoenberg.
For my upcoming Wales trip, I've been listening to Tom Jones and Bryn Terfel. Bryn Terfel's voice is so beautiful, he gives me goosebumps!

Does anyone know how I could find out if Bryn Terfel is performing anywhere in Wales during September, 2002?

For a 'beachy' destination, Jimmy Buffet or the Beachboys, for France, Paris Combo (if you've never heard them your missing out!), for Italy - Louis Prima or Volare. Unfortunately, I've found most European commercial radio pretty dreadful, like the worst of American style pop!
