Mike,
I had one of the most poignant moments of my life while at the Musee Marmottan.
It was last December, and I was taking a trip that I had booked on September 9th. The Parisians were marvelous to this American and went out of their way to talk about the horror of September 11 while I was there.
Anyway, while at this museum, a lovely young women carrying a small baby was in one of the small rooms with me. She and I looked at the paintings in silence for many minutes. At one point another wpman with a small, perhaps five year old child approached her and spoke to her in English. I recognised the accent of the woman who shared the room with me, and immediately smiled and spoke to her.
Within minutes she and I spoke of our origins in the States. When I commented on her beautiful new baby, she started to cry. Her parents hadn't seen the child that was born in early September. Their flights were cancelled and they were still concerned about traveling. This young woman also had concerns about flying with her children. I sensed her deep sadness at being so far from home when September 11 happened. And, her lonliness, at not being near her family with her new baby.
It was a brief encounter, but, one that so deeply touched me. I have often thought about that lovely young woman who lives in Paris with her French husband.
Have a wonderful trip, Mike. The museum and the area are both well worth your time.
Gigi

Ho boy, Glad I asked about the RER. Thanks for the advice on the van trip Howard.
Gigi, I am sure I am not the only one who will appreciate your experience at the Musee Marmottan Monet. Strange how we can meet someone from home so far away. Glad you finally go to go on your delayed trip.
