Munich hotels
Hallo! My husband and I will be staying in Munich next year during Oktoberfest. Trying to decide on a nice hotel. Any recommendations? Hotel Munchen Palace looks lovely but it is a bit pricey especially around festival time. I don't think we are interested in staying near the festival grounds to get away from the crowds but we do want to stay in the city. I've read some neighborhods to the north and west are nice to stay in (Schwabing, maxvorstadt, haidhausen?). I have also been looking into airbnb but that seems to be a hot topic. It's just so much more affordable....
My husband and I are both fit people so walking is not an option and we do live in a city so public transportation should be easy for us to catch on to. Any advice is appreciated.

Hi Stephy,
Yes, everything is going to be pricey for the Oktoberfest. Everything!
My perpetually-broke nephew is looking to fund his own trip to Ofest in 2018, and I told him it's best to be booked by February.
If you can accept that all hotels will be pricey, perhaps just find a nice hotel you like. I stayed at the Hotel Blauer Bock a couple of years ago and loved it; it's just across the street from the Viktualienmarkt.
Otherwise, I would just use a booking site like booking.com, input your dates, then look at the map to see the locations of the hotels that are available and in your price range.
Good luck -- and have fun as you plan!

FWIW, my brother and SIL like the Torbräu, while I like the Isartor, which is a bit less luxuriously frou-frou, but still very comfortable, and correspondingly cheaper. They're either side of an U-Bahn station and an easy walk to the Viktualienmarkt, the Frauenkirche, Theatinerkirche, Rathaus and main shopping streets.

We were in Munich in September. The two hotels we stayed at were the Pension Lindner and the Hotel am Viktualienmarkt. Both were great. We stayed at the first one for 5 nights. The host was very helpful and accommodating and our rooms (one for us and one for our adult kids) were very well kept and well appointed. Location was great! The other hotel we only stayed at on our last night after we returned from Austria. Again the host was great and very accommodating, such as insisting on providing breakfast before their usual hours as we had an early departure. The room was much more modern, but very comfortable. Great location again. We would not hesitate to stay at either one again , FWIW.
