Munich Hotel Help

Help!!

We are going to Munich in 3 weeks (Oct 8), just after Oktoberfest. We have reservations at the Hotel Adria. I am having doubts about the hotel, as it was listed in Frommer's every year until this year, so I'm worried about what may have happened that it didn't make the cut. Has anyone stayed there? Or does anyone have any suggestions for other affordable (around $150 US) hotels near the city center?

My husband has never been to Europe, has already been travelling on business for a month and I want to make sure we stay somewhere clean and comfortable so we can both relax!

Thanks!!

4sammy,

If you do a Fodors search on Munich hotels, you will receive lots of suggestions.

Personally, our choice is the Torbraeu. The location is fantastic. Very nice, very old hotel (I believe it is the oldest hotel in Munich). Although old, everything has been updated. Quite comfortable. It gets very, very good reviews on this board.

We have considered the Torbrau as well. We may end up changing our reservation there. I have plenty of names of hotels in Munich, so I don't need to look up any more. I was just really hoping for some recent reviews.

4sammy,

You apparently misunderstood my suggestion of a search on the Fodors sight. At the top of the page, there is a area to enter your request.....then select the country.

I entered munich hotels and immediatly got over 50 responses........all in 2003! Not sure how much more current you want.

Curious,

I apologize, I did misunderstand. I just did the search you recommended and I got a lot of good information. Thanks, and sorry for the misunderstanding!

It looks to be near the English Garden.

Here is the address:
Liebigstrasse 8a

We would like to be in close proximity to the gardens for morning runs, but I am finding that to be a conflict with being close to the city center and shops / cafes.

4sammy,

Your apology accepted.

Once you are in Munich you will do enough walking, believe me, that you may find jogging not needed.

However, if you do decide on the Torbraeu, the beautiful Isator River is only a block or so away. It has paths along the river that would very well suit your purpose.

One thing to keep in mind in Germany; Right of way is understood and expected. Keep OUT of the bicycle lanes. Otherwise they will come up behind you unannounced, ring their bell and you had best move over. Of course the same is true of the Autobahn except the cars might just run over you if you dawdle in the fast lane.
