munich hotel

We will be traveling to munich the middle of august and staying at the Tryp hotel near the main train station. Anyone have any experience with this hotel and how to get there from the airport? I have heard that the S8 from airport will go to the main train staion.

I think the Lufthansa bus is the best way, particularly if you are flying back from Munich because you can buy a round trip ticket. The bus makes it much easier to manage your luggage.
Suitcases are put in the storage area under the seats and remain locked in there until the bus stops. The driver opens the luggage bins and supervises pickup.

The bus moves right along and makes only one stop that I know of between the airport and the main train station.

I have ridden the S-Bahn to and from the airport and I have taken the bus.
From now on, I will take the bus. I find it preferable, particularly because I usually have one large suitcase and one carry-on.

You can take either line S-1 or S-8 as both go to the main rail station. The bus mentioned above may be more convenient for you, however.

The train from the Munich airport is cheap and easy. You can probably find details online. Whatever you do, don't take a taxi. It will take an hour and cost you as much as your hotel.

I have to disagree about the taxi..last time I left Munich (2003) I took a taxi from the LeMeridien hotel which is directly across the street from the main rail station.

The fare was 45 Euros and at one point the driver was cruising at 140 KPH...needless to say it took way LESS than an hour and the price was a bargain compared to the hotel!
