Munich - Help!

We decided on a last minute trip to Munich for Oktoberfest - any ideas on places to stay? We got a great price for a flight - now we just need a bed (actually 2 of them!).

We stayed at a great place across the street from the fairgrounds that I got off of Fodor's guidebook-can't remember the name, but I may have it at home-I'll check and post back but in the meantime try the miniguides on the site.

We recently booked a room for a reasonable rate during Oktoberfest in Munich but I specifically wanted an airport hotel. However, during my research I found many hotels still had rooms, although a lot of them are expensive, most over $200.

The Munich tourism web site is a good place to start to at least find out who still has rooms available. You can go from there to the hotels directly and see if you can find a better deal. Their web site is:
http://www.muenchen-tourist.de/englisch/index_e.htm
If you put "discount Munich hotels" in Google you'll get a number of booking agency sites, at least a place to start to check availabilty and possible rates. Of course, you can also check with Expedia, Orbitz, etc.

I just booked yesterday through Discounthotels (thanks fodorites) after an all day search. The place is called Hotel Wallis, $179/double, about 5 miles from the wisen. I did a search here, and there was someone on the boards who stayed at the Wallis and gave good reviews. We may continue our search for a better place, but I feel like we got pretty lucky. Can you repost back if you find something better? (Wallis is a 3-star).

Why not use the largest German Hotel Reservation service?
www.hrs.de
There's an English version to it.

Good luck!
