Munich & Ocktoberfest
Guten Tag! Any information regarding how the Beer Tents work at the Ocktoberfest. I know one must be seated in order to drink beer. Do you pay after each beer or when you leave? Should I have Euros handy for each round? Do you tip the beer servers? In there a fee to actually get in to the event? Would appreciate any info. Thanks Michael

We were there 5 years ago but I'm sure it hasn't changed much. There is no fee to get into the event and walk around. I believe we paid after each round but that might have been b/c we only stayed for one beer in each tent-they are huge and I would not have been seeing straight. The tents are huge though. My word of advice -- don't ride the carnival rides with the crazy Italians cackling into the microphones after being in the beer tents all evening-seems like a good idea but believe me, it's not!

They have around ten beer tents and each holds a couple thousand people. You pay when the beer is brought to your table by the big Bavarian beer maid Don't mess with them! Its really a great time and you meet lots of people at your beer table with benches. We spent nine days there when I was younger and wilder. I got robbed skunk drunk and sombody stole my pants while I was in our camping tent. The next morning the big laugh around the camp ground was the American guy who was yelling in the middle of the night "WHO THE HELL STOLE MY PANTS?". I told a few people it was me and they could hardly stop laughing.

Grüß Gott! (more likely to be heard in Bavaria instead of Guten Tag)
No, there is no entrance fee for the Oktoberfest. But be careful, there is an event called Bayerisches Zentral-Landwirtschaftsfest (Farmers' fair) right next to the beer festival, and there is an entrance fee!

Currently recovering from opening day yesterday. Good news is that the weather is awesome (sunny and 80's)! Bad news is that bc of the good weather, there are so many people wandering around it's practically impossible to get a seat in the beer tents. Right now, I'm "recovering" on the back porch with a weißbier, known in these parts as Liquid Nutrition.
