Munich airport

My flight comes in 30 minutes before that of a friend and we would like to meet somewhere in the airport so we can share a cab to our hotel - obviously after immigration and getting our luggage.
I am not familiar with Munich airport - where would the best place be to meet? Is there an iconic sign or something that we both would immediately recognize?
Thanks for you help.

The S bahn into Munich is easier and cheaper to use. Go to level 8 in the Munich airport and get a Bayern ticket (good after 9 am) for the number of people in your group. This ticket is also good for the S and U bahn trains within the city to get to your ultimate destination/hotel. It is also good for all day so can use to get out and about after arrival, just note that the group has to travel together on this ticket. Remember to write the names of the group on the back of the ticket, and validate (once only) before going down the escalator. Watch the locals for a few minutes to be sure.

As to meeting with your friends; find out which terminal (1 or 2) that both you and them are coming into. If both the same, then can meet just outside of the security doors after clearing customs and getting bags. If different terminals, it might be easier to go to entrance of the S bahn, find an adjacent coffee shop/restaurant, and wait there. There is a common area between terminals 1 and 2 called the Munich Airport Center (MAC). One restaurant we are familiar with is Airbrau, but there are others. A little digging on the web will net better information as it's been a couple of yrs since we were there. My husband and I were trying to remember if there was a coffee shop just at the escalator/ticket booth for the S bahns and think there is, but can't quite pull the memory up.

Here is a good guide to the airport and S bahn basics: https://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Munich_Airport

Meet them at the S-Bahn station IN TERMINAL 1 entrance by the ticket machines.

Taxi is about 60 euro to the city center and takes about 45 minutes if you go that route.

We walked out the door and about 100 feet to the Hilton Hotel. You can wait and have coffee and snacks right in the hotel lobby, where it is comfortable, light, and bright. Both of you can get there easily, and relax a bit before going on.

Hi Lolo12,

I second the suggestion of the Airbrau, which is the airport's own beer brewery, and yes, it is iconic. Everyone I know with time to wait at the airport or with the task of meeting people do it at the Airbrau. It sits between terminals 1 & 2, and you cannot miss it. It is large, though, with an outside beer garden and a big restaurant inside, so tell your friend to look around a bit to find you. You both may want to download the app Whatsapp (for texting), and use the airport's wifi to coordinate your meeting. Then, relax, have a coffee or a coffee and pastry, and wait for your friend to show up.

I also second the suggestion of taking the S-Bahn into town -- it's so very easy to do, is super cheap, and will be faster than a taxi (traffic in the ring around Munich is supposed to be horrible). Both the S1 and S8 go into the center, and they depart from the same platform, so you simply have to hop onto the next one that departs -- you won't be waiting more than 10 minutes.

Have fun as you plan!

I'd rather get a MVV airport & city day group ticket. It's cheaper (24.30) and not subject to time restrictions.

Sounds good, we usually head to GAP first day and stay in Munich later on our trips. The MVV is only for Munich not Bavaria?
