Munich accommodations

Hi all. We will spending 2 nights in Munich on the start of our Germany/Switzerland vacation.

We need a room for 2 adults and 2 teen boys. We have a reservation at the Holiday Inn Express, but I think that's outside the city center.

The Holiday Inn Munich center wouldn't guarantee us 2 adjacent rooms.

We don't have to stay in a HI, but we do have points. Am open to other suggestions on convenient, but not super expensive places to stay.

We are planning on renting a car. We want to do a half day trip to Dachau on day 2.

One of the Mercure hotels has a good central location close to the Marienplatz.

Is the HI where you have your reservations convinient to an S-Bahn or U-Bahn station? If so, then I wouldn't worry too much about it being outside the city center as long as it isn't too far out. Public transportation is really good in Munich.

We used Priceline.com and ended up staying at the Marriott. It was a very nice hotel for $68 per night and just a short subway ride to the city center.

Dachau is very convenient to get to by public transportation. You won't need a car to get to it.
