Austria celebrates the 250th anniversary of the birth of Mozart in 2006.

Many buildings where he resided have been renovated for this occasion including the " Figaro House" in Vienna and birthplace in Salzburg.

The list of events, concerts, operas etc. are too numerous to list here.
look at the website

www.info.wien.at

It will have a considerable list of events and more information in english.
If you are a Mozart lover a visit is a feast of Mozart and his music for the entire year.

If you are a Mozart fan- enough to keep you very busy.
Our Vienna newspaper had an insert of Mozart only events for January 27 - 29
A list two pages long.

Here's the official Austrian Mozart 2006 site:

Of course, Prague was almost as important a city for Mozart as Salzburg and Vienna. Here's the Prague Mozart site:

We too are travelling to Prague and Vienna next Spring, and I am having trouble deciding on an event in each city to attend. How far in advance do bookings need to be made. Are there any recommendations on which event would provide the best experience?
Thank you.

Will let you all know if my music festival in Prague (Ameropa) plans anything special, as well. We run for 2 weeks in the summer.

to Bling: did you get any responses to your question re: how far in advance to you need to buy tickets? I, too, am wondering. We will be in Salzburg + Vienna in spring, and don't know how to arrange concerts. Should we buy now online? or wait till we get there & hope for last minute bargains or even standing room only? does anyone know how to go about this?

Just a word of caution: I was in Salzburg in early December, and the town was absolutely mobbed with visitors and shoppers. Our local guide told us that in 2006 Salzburg is expected to be exceptionally crowded; so make arrangements ASAP and be prepared for long waits to see the sights.
