The best advice is don't waste your time and money. It's a tourist trap with an old-fashioned Las Vegas style show and incredibly expensive and poor quality food and wine.
You're in Paris - do something French. Go to a jazz club. Or a film festival. See an opera or symphony or ballet. Check with your hotel concierge to see what special concerts or activities are available while you're there. (Several years ago ours was abLe to get us fantastic tickets to a concert by Kiri Te Kawana - incredible!)

Roosevelt, I agree with NYtraveler, forget the Moulin Rouge, vastly overrated and expensive. There is a great deal of security on the premises, the theater itself has seen better days, and the show is only so-so.
I do not have suggestions for an alternative, but I am sure that many Fodorites will. Enjoy Paris. Of course, a cruise down the Seine in the evening is always lovely….

Go to Au Lapin Agile, the oldest cabaret in Paris, and not a hokey tourist show.
