Last May, we had a very romantic dinner at Vanillas, located on the caldera in Firastephani. We were taken into the room in the back wich was a small cave warmly lit with soft light, candles, losts of cushions, etc, but not much of view since it is a cave. But very intimate.. We also had a very good time at Seline in Fira, which does have a good view. But when we were there the weather at night was a bit cool to sit outside in the courtyard, so we sat inside. Very beautiful. I could not help but note that many of the patrons appeared to be celebrating their honeymoon, anniversary or b-days. For Seline see www.seline.gr

If you are in Oia, there are 2 that I can recommend. The 1800 restaurant, not the best view, but excellent food and romantic with white linen tablecloths, candlelight, and fine China. The other is the Ambrosia, less formal, but right on the edge of the caldera. While we were eating dinner there, a cat fight ensued just below us on the cliffs. It ended abruptly with a rapidly diminishing wail as one cat apparently lost its perch on the cliffs!

In Fira town, I can recommend both Archipelagos and Selene, both on the caldera, for fine dining while watching the sun disappear into the sea...
