Mosquitos time?

Does anyone know if Mosquitos are a big problem on a River Cruise from Moscow to St.P's in June or July? I just read an old post that mentioned the writer had to practically bathe in Deet everyday in June and the Poplar trees were shedding which were really bad for his allergies. Has anyone else had this experience?

You posted this before - instead of starting a new thread it is usually better to top your previous thread.

But the reason you probably haven't got any answers on either thread is because your title isn't clear. "Mosquitos time?" could be asking about anyplace in all of Europe.

I'd try re-posting w/ something like "Russia summer river cruise - are mosquitos bad?"

Thank you janisj: Yes, sorry about the two posts but I tried twice to post this message under the Europe then "Russia" area - and both times it appeared just under Europe. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

I did write "River cruise from Moscow to St.P's" so people would understand I'm asking about Russia.

There is only one Europe forum, not individual country forums. Selecting Russia is just for future search purposes. To find your previous posts, click on your own screen name.

Thank you kybourbon - now, can I type out my question, so that is only appears in the "Russia" forum? When I type it out in the Europe forum, it just gets lost in the dozens that appear each day. To reach people that have been to Russia, I think my letter needs to appear in the Russia forum only.

No, but it might help to put Russia in the title as previously suggested. If it is any help, I read recently that mosquitos like the color blue and the scent of bananas, so don't eat bananas or wear blue.

kybourbon has already told you that there is no Russia forum. So it will be impossible for you to post within something that does not exist.

You must post in the Europe forum. You can click on Russia as well so that the post will surface when people are searching for Russia.

The best thing to do is follow the Fodor's guidelines:

>Finally, create a title - make sure it is concise and clearly describes your message (and destination, if applicable) -- and write your message in the space provided, then hit the button marked POST MY MESSAGE<

Next time, your thread title should be: Are mosquitos a big problem on Russian river cruises in June or July?

Thanks all - I've finally got it. Maybe I'll post again next week using all your suggestions.

vjpblovesitaly: I don't wear blue but I occasionally scratch under my arms

Mosquitos are present in Moscow & St Pete & in the countryside during the summer and the poplar trees do shed white fluff. Whether it causes a big problem or not is down to the individual-neither caused me a problem.

Thank you Odin: The white fluff from Poplar trees doesn't affect me - but each bite from a Mosquito comes up in a huge bump, itches like crazy, looks ugly and red and lasts a whole week. That's why I needed to know. I will go prepared - Thanks again.

oldebrit, I suuggest you could try posting on tripadvisor.com there forums ARE seperated by country, and are very busy so you are likely to get more specific replies.

You could also go on to a cruise board and check out the forums on river cruises in Europe.
Try cruisecritics.com or cruisemates.com , both popular sites.

PS If its any help , the cotton tres are "snowing " like mad here right now, doesn't bother me at all either, but it is hell for some. I suggest that the timing in Russia couldn't be more then a few weeks later then our season( allowing for it being more north then us, but not much as I am Canadian)

Thank you bozama - yes, I have already checked out those sites. I will make sure I take a couple of bottles of repellent and hope the smell won't repel the passengers too!!

IF you don't want to take a bottle of repellent, you can buy individually packaged towelettes. I buy the Deep Woods Off brand and just stick a few of the packets in my luggage.
