We were there in late May,2006. We had intended just to make a short stop on a day trip to Siena. Monteriggioni was so charming and atmospheric that we spent close to five hours just relaxing and enjoying the town. One of very few times that we just threw our itinerary out the window. Definitely worth the effort to get there.

Hi
My wife and I went to Tuscany in July. One day we drove of from our home base in Castellina in Chianti and we drove to San Gimignano and Monteriggioni. SG didn't really work for me...we were there in the middle of the day and it was just packed with tourists...so when we came to Monteriggioni I thought "Why don't more people visit this instead of SG?" So I would say it is worth a stop. Send me a mail on [email protected] and I'll send you a mail when the trip report is finished.
