Have you ever gone to Monteriggioni in tuscany? Did you think it was worth the effort getting there?

Yes, was there in 2005. We were in Castellina and was not any trouble getting there. It is a remarkable village and well worth the trip. Leaving for Italy on Sept. 7 and plan to return there with friends.

We were there in late May,2006. We had intended just to make a short stop on a day trip to Siena. Monteriggioni was so charming and atmospheric that we spent close to five hours just relaxing and enjoying the town. One of very few times that we just threw our itinerary out the window. Definitely worth the effort to get there.

Tiny town but in really beautiful and hilly surroundings.

Do you think it is doable or to much for one day Sienna to San Gimignano & Monteriggioni.

Too much...Siena alone is a good 6 hour visit if you intend to move at a sane pace...then San G is another 3-4-this leaves you with little time or energy to cram in another and that is w/o the driving, parking hassles.

It is on the route and can be enjoyed in less than an hour if time dictates---why not?

My wife and I went to Tuscany in July. One day we drove of from our home base in Castellina in Chianti and we drove to San Gimignano and Monteriggioni. SG didn't really work for me...we were there in the middle of the day and it was just packed with tourists...so when we came to Monteriggioni I thought "Why don't more people visit this instead of SG?"
