Montepulciano ? Hotel ideas ?

We will be flying to Florence in February, We thought we would spend a few days there and then go to a smaller town for a few days before going to Rome for our last few days. Montepulciano sounded nice and you can get there by train, as we will not be renting a car.We would love to hear any suggestins for hotels, restaurants and things to see. Thanks !

You will find my comments on hotels and eating in Montepulciano under the thread, "January in Tuscany and Bologna." We have just returned from two nights at La Terrassa de Montepulciano and I recommend it. Double room was 85 Euro per night.

just so you know, you can't really get to Montepulciano by train. there is a station listed with that name but it is in the country and there are no taxis or busses serving it. the nearest way is to take a train to chiusi and then a bus to Montepulcianon (about an hour).

Thanks for the feed back, I am now thinking about renting a car in Chiusi. Do you know if there is a car rental near the train station ?

There are two offices of AutoEurope in Chiusi. One is downtown and not sure the location of the other but it comes up if you do a request on their website.

i don't see any advantage in taking a train to chiusi and then renting a car. why not just rent the car in florence and enjoy the scenery on the short drive to montepulciano and forget the cost of the train tickets?
