Mont St Michel revisited, my impressions

There have been a number of recent enquiries regarding Mont St Michel; how to get there, and whether to stay on the island, or on the mainland near La Caserne. At present, there have been changes to the access of the island, with the construction of the new bridge, and the establishment of the new car park at La Caserne. The construction has also affected the visual landscape of the Mont. I have just returned from a five day visit and have written an illustrated overview of the present situation with maps and photos that might help with planning at http://www.artphototravel.net/europe/mont-st-michel/

useful guide Les thank you.

"inundating the surrounding fields" jarred a bit though

les112, thanks for your report. I had read of the project around MSM. Do you know when it will be finished?

Good report les112. I've stayed at La Caserne and I've stayed on the Mont and I agree with you that staying on the Mont itself is the way to go. It is magical at night having the island almost to yourself. I have a photo album I made of my visit to the Mont in September a couple of years ago. I arrived in the evening and left in the morning and if you want to see what awaits you in the evening and morning when there are no crowds then take a look at these photos:

I must let you all know that I seem to have some sort of magnet in me that repels tourists. Whenever I go to the most crowded, touristy destinations the crowds just seem to disappear, hence the reason there are no people in any of my photos.

Thanks for that. I was particularly interested in the photo of the current state of the bridge construction.

The whole project will not be completely finished until 2015.
