Monmartre Shopping Recommendations?
I am planning to spend a bit of time in Monmartre and was interested to hear if anyone had any favorite shops there - it could be anything from food to crafts to art to fabric - whatever! Tell what it sells and why you like it - thanks!

Although I didn't make it up there, apparently at the foot of Sacre Coeur are several different fabric stores (Marche St. Pierre as I recall is one). Do a "google" search and you might find an address. Sorry, I don't have any notes with me.
I'm sure others on this site will know the names of other fabric stores up in that area. If I can find some other information, I'll repost.
I was very sad not to be able to get up there when I was in Paris in July. However, in the 90+ degree heat, I found I really didn't care!! I'll get there the next trip.

Here's the website for Marche St. Pierre -- http://www.marche-saint-pierre.fr. I'll look at my notes and see what additional fabric stores I may information for.
Enjoy!

Hi there!
I would suggest getting off the metro at Pigalle and walking up rue Houdon. This street has several new, small ladies clothing boutiques as well as a really cute kids store on the right side. There is also a resto called Chez Gignette?? or something like this on the right side that comes highly recommended, although we haven't eaten there as of yet.
After you reach the top of the street, you dead end in rue des Abbesses and there is plenty of shopping there, too. There is a cute store on the left side on the corner that has decorative stuff, and to your right on rue des Abbesses is a storefront with a pink facade is yet another clothing boutique. And if you are hungry, just stop at Le Relais Gascon which is a great place for a huge fattening salad that arrives at your table piled high with thin-sliced garlic fried potatoes. And under that is usually goat cheese, lardons, tomatoes and other stuff, depending on which variety you order!
Enjoy your trip!!

You don't even need the names of the fabric stores, just go the Place St. Piere and Rue Tardieu at the base of Sacre Coeur and look downhill, you will see a mass of fabric stores. It's the Paris version the NYC garment district. Lots of "tacky" bargain stores as well. Deborah
