This isn't even a difficult question, I don't have any strict budget and rarely spend more than that and I'm not trying that much. If I understand, this is around US$100 a day or 75 euro (to spend solely on meals and sightseeing (and souvenirs, just don't spend much on that, that shouldn't be a big item in anyone's budget). Why is that so hard, I don't usually spend more than that on food and sightseeing in Europe. You don't have to be begging for scraps or acting like homeless people by buing one meal and splitting it and going to soup kitchens or bringing jars of peanut butter (ugh). You can't do that in any restaurant, anyway, but one meal and split it. You can split individual items, like a dessert maybe, but not one meal for two people.

We buy enough in the morning (rolls, butter, meats, cheeses) for breakfast and lunch. Eat standing up. From Munich, use the Bayern Ticket to get around on day trips: http://www.toytowngermany.com/wiki/Bayern_ticket
If you go to Fussen, there is a place to get cheap food below the castle near the parking lot.

There are plenty of cheap, good restaurants in the St. Michel area of Paris. Menus and prices are posted outside. You can eat a very good 3 course meal for 10-15 euros.
The German beer halls serve very good, cheap food. There is also a good food selection in the Munich train station.

Drinks are pricey in all places. You can get drinks much cheaper in grocery stores or bring a refillable water bottle.

Regarding the ATM: Make sure that your PIN is a 4-digit number. Before you go you need to notify your bank that you will be travelling so they can put notification in your file.

scatcat, no tourist ever finds this mall. To the left of the entrance to Karstadt are the stairs to street level and just a few meters left from those stairs is the entrance. It's as if tourists rather prefer to pay rip off prices.. Of course they close at 8pm.

If you happen to luck out and be in Paris on the first Sunday of the month, the entrance to the Louvre is FREE.

I agree that 70 euro/day to eat, get around, and sightsee is sufficient that she doesn't have to resort to hauling around a jar of PB to save money. It isn't a lavish budget that will support a full sitdown at every meal, but it is a decent budget.

I do think that picnics and take away food are a great way to go for some meals, regardless of whether you are trying to save money. Some days may be particularly busy anyway and not lend themselves to a full sit down.
