Monastaries in Italy

Has anybody stayed in a monastery in Italy? I have seen a few books with listings but was hoping for some personal recommendations!

I don't care about quality of accommodation but just want to find some places where the nuns/brothers are nice, accept a married couple and can be reached without a car - some walking is OK. (We are Catholic so are open to any that require some sort of spiritual reason for visit. I can be pious for a short space of time!)

I intend to travel all around Italy so any locations would be fine!

Thanks for any suggestions!

I posted some threads in the past about this subject, particularly Florence and Rome convents.

I will be staying at this one in Florence:

Look at this link:

Get the book Bed and Blessings.

Hi wilees,

St Anthony's Guest House in Assisi is run by the Franciscan Sisters of Atonement ([email protected]). Two years ago they charged about $50 (US) per couple, which included a basic breakfast. Guest House is in the city, great view from garden, closing hour of 11... but what do you do in Assisi after that hour? Staff was helpful and they had an honor bar to purchase wine/sodas. No car is needed at all, you can take a bus up the hill from the train station. They do not inquire about religious views. (You do feel like you are at your parent's house when you put the single beds together though). Great place. This is an American sisterhood out of New York.
