Yes, you pay the administrative fee to the car rental company (extortion), which they then send on to the rental car company, then you wait for the actual fine notice to arrive in your mailbox (usually long after the fines have accumulated). If you want to send me the notice for me to decipher for you, feel free to send it to StCirq at aol dot com and I'll be happy to translate it for you so you know what is what.

Sundried, the key thing is to know the speed limit, and stick to it. When you enter a town the town name board is also the speed limit sign - 50km/h unless they specifically state otherwise (a lot have 30km/h in the centre and near schools). There are very often speed cameras just a few metres past those signs so you need to anticipate the speed limit.
Do not be tempted to go with the flow if other drivers are going too fast.
We use the Here app to navigate and that has a speed warning signal on it - very useful. I expect other apps do too, and things lie TomToms but I don't know for sure. Not a radar or speed camera warning - that is illegal, just a little beep if you go over the limit.

You got it! I figure this is payback from French authorities for my driving escapades in the taxi/bus lane in Paris in 2012. I thought I might have to mortgage the house after that fiasco. Thanks for your help.

No problem, maitaitom. Shame on you for driving too fast in Provence Next time you come to France you can drink too much and sleep chez nous. I promise to provide a great breakfast and warnings as to where the local speed trapsare
