November trip to Florence-wondering about lodging for $100-150 per night. We've been there before and love it. Thanks in advance.

This B&B is directly behind the Duome in a great location. Rooms are large and beds comfortable. Breakfast is not fancy but adequate.

The Hotel Enza is another possibility in that price range. Might be a bit below. It is about a 10 minute walk to the Duomo and about the same distance to the train station. The hotel begins on the second story of the building. No elevator. Rooms are mostly large and all are clean and comfortable with modern baths en suite or down the hall. Pleasant and helpful staff.

Just back from Florence, stayed at Porta Faenza http://www.hotelportafaenza.it/for 130 EUR/night. Good location (few steps from Santa Maria Novella) and close to an excellent restaurant (Antellesi). Breakfast included, friendly staff and free internet.

I'd recommend Galileo (near Medici Chapels), Goldoni (near antique shops and Arno), Machiavelli or Hotel Balesteri(near Uffizi Gallery).

We've stayed a few times a the Hotel Nuova Italia on the Via Faienza, a 10 minute walk from the train station. Not fancy but decent and clean, with interesting art on the walls. Good breakfast. In your price range.

Just as another option -- and if you're staying for a week -- you may want to look into renting an apartment. You probably could get a decent place for two for the price you want to pay, especially in Nov.

I have to completely disagree with RFD regarding Hotel Nuova Italia. It is very basic, no elevator, and has plenty of noise at five am from the merchants setting up their wares in the San Lorenzo market. In addition the lobby and breakfast room were very smokey smelling. We actually had a few flies in our room. One night was all we could stand and we checked out very early. Do not even consider this place!

I recommend Tourist House Ghiberti, which is around the block behind the Duomo. DH & I stayed there in 2003 and loved it. Prices are within your range, and the service can't be beat. www.touristhouseghiberti.com.

Unfortunately, some of the mentioned hotels are NOT in your budget range. As of last week, it's 1.35 euros to the U.S. dollar. So, unless the U.S. dollar improves in the next five months, you need to find accommodations at no more than 110 euros per night to stay within budget.

We stayed at the Hotel Piccolo, which was really well located (easy walk to just about everywhere). The rates were quite cheap - I remember thinking what great value for money. Room was quite large and bright and it had a big (for Europe) bathroom. The breakfast (which was included in our rate) was quite substantial (cereal, yoghurts, fruit, toast, tea and coffee and juice). The owner was very friendly and helpful and spoke excellent English. The only downside was that it was located on the second floor and third floors with no lift - so a bit of effort with suitcases.

I stayed at Hotel Casci about two months ago. Spotlessly clean, excellent breakfast, very nice family-run hotel. We had room no. 10, a double. Big bathtub, toilet, sink, bidet and shower with a slightly elevated portion at the bottom and a clean (!!) shower curtain. Loved it. It was our second time there, and we are planning our third.
