Miles on AA from SFO to Dublin?
Anyone know how many miles a person would earn on a round trip ticket from SFO to Dublin, Ireland? We're trying to decide what airline to take and we'd prefer to fly British Airways but will go American if it will enable us to qualify for tickets to Costa Rica. We need about 14,000 miles.

There are many variables at play that I can't give an easy answer.
Basically- it depends completely on the type of ticket you buy, the cheapest ones don't gives such mileage opportunities. It also depends if you have status on AA. There might be promos running. If you are in the AAdvantage program, doesn't it tell you?

IIRC even though AA is on the OneWorld alliance, you can't get miles flying over the pond with BA.

Unfortunately, AA's website only tells you how many miles you need to get a ticket, not how many you will earn on a given flight. Yes, I know you can't get AA miles on BA if you go on a route they fly themselves, only on flight portions they don't fly. I am just hoping someone has taken an economy flight on AA and remembers about how many miles they earned.

Try the Great Circle Mapper website - put in your two airport codes your miles will come up!

Thanks everyone for your help. I did find a flight calculator and American gives 100% so I would earn 11,000. I have 56K and my husband has 23K so we will be very close to 70K for me and 35K for him so we can buy the extra and get three tickets to Costa Rica for next year if we suck it up and fly American.

MOnica, do you have an AA Advantage Visa card? If not why don't you get one ASAP..charge your tickets and that will add some miles. They may even have a special miles offering for new accounts. Use it on your trip and you might not have to buy miles.

so just be fully informed about what booking class yr ticket is in before you purchase yr ticket.
