Milan to Locarno (car or train)

I will be flying into Milan for business mid-December and would like to visit the Bellinzona, Locarno and Valle Verzasca area for a couple of days. I know I can catch a train to Locarno but I assume I need a car to explore the valleys. Does anyone know if car rental is available in Locarno, Bellinzona or Lugano or would I have to rent in Milan? Are there any other options for travel up Valle Verzasca, such as bus or post bus? Also has anyone here ever stayed at the Hotel dell'Angelo in Locarno?

You can get your car in Lugano, but it is a :10 taxi ride from the station. From there, the other locations are less than an hour and are all worth your time---we loved Val Verzasca.

There are buses that run from Locarno to Sonogno but you'll have more freedom with a car.

If you go to Sonogno, there's a wonderful Canadian woman who runs the ice rink/restaurant. Stop by for a drink or a meal and a nice chat.

Thank you for the information. I will try to get a car in Lugano so I can stop along the way as I please. I will also try to make it to the ice rink restaurant.
