Milan Metro Tickets
I have two questions please. I will be in Milan for two days. I am curious to understand . , does the "clock" start when one purchases the 48 hour metro pass or when one validates it for the first ride? Are these passes avail for purchase at Cadorna Station?
Thanks as always to the Fodor Nation

It should start when you validate it. Try and ask at the ticket office though. I didn't know there was a 48 hour metro pass( I know there is a 24 hour one) but if you know there are, well I'm sure they are avail for purchase at the Cadorna Station (which is by the way one of the pivotal and most crowded metro stops in Milan)

Thank You Feda.
Per ATM site 48 hour passes are avail for E5.50. I appreciate the info about Cadorna too. Arriving at Cadorna via Malpensa Express around 8:00 PM. The hotel is in the Porto Venezia area. Being jet lagged is am leaning toward a taxi rather than Red M1 line. Would you know if there is a taxi stand near Cadorna?
Grazie

Kybourbon. I chose Cadorna becasue that is where the Malpensa Express takes me. I considered Centrale but I know how "stupid" i am after a 13 hour flight from the PAcific North West and would rather not deal with a transfere from the green M@ metro line to the Red M! metro line. In additiona I am not clear on how and where to catch the Trenitalia trains running from MXP to Centrale. If you can provide some details and guidance like where to go at MXP to get the train to Centrale, I agree that would be an easier choice, for multiple reasons. Thanks for the assist.

On Trenitalia, if you enter Malpensa Aeroporto and Milano Centrale, you will see there are frequent trains to Centrale (travel time 48-54 minutes depending on train) for 7€ at :47 after the hour (earlier in the day they are more frequent). You didn't say what time you were getting to the airport, but would assume you could catch either the 19:47 or 20:47 train.
Example:
Arrival station Arrival time Departure time
Malpensa Aeroporto --:-- 22:47
Busto Arsizio Nord 22:54 22:55
Saronno 23:04 23:05
Milano Nord Bovisa 23:18 23:19
Milano Porta Garibaldi 23:25 23:26
Milano Centrale 23:37 --:--
Even if you just enter Malpensa and Milan, these trains should still show.
From the airport website:
>>>TRENITALIA
You can reach Milan by Trenitalia trains departing from Gallarate. A bus service is available from the Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 of Malpensa to Gallarate Railway Station. For information on the bus service: SA.CO. +39.0331.258411<<<
Track 2 at Gallarate is for direct trains to Milano Centrale, Milano Porta Garibaldi and the pair of international trains to and from Venice. The shuttle tickets are about 1.50€, but depends which terminal you catch the bus.
There is nothing wrong with using Cadorna (the area is fine and there will be taxis), I just thought Centrale would put you closer to your final destination.
