Milan lodging/apartment

Hello dear Fodorites, I’m back again planning our travels for this year!

We will be spending 4 nights in Milan from May 10-13, there will be four of us. I am
looking for an apartment, rather than hotel, as we like to spread out and have a little more room.

We will need two bedrooms with two bathrooms, I found some on Airbnb, including a couple near the station, but I haven’t a clue about suitable neighborhoods, as well as ones to avoid. We want to be fairly central, walking distance to the Duomo and restaurants, etc.

My brother and DH will go to a soccer match on the Sunday, we want to get tickets for the Last Supper on Monday morning. What else do you suggest, we’ll have a third full day. We were last in Milan forty years back, so I have absolutely no
idea about what else to see and do. Will definitely read up some guidebooks, but want to get our accommodation tied up asap.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions! Moderator, please tag for Italy, I am posting on my phone and am not able to do it from here. Thanks!

geetika, my wife and I usually stay in Hotel Berna, and the broad area between that and the Duomo puts you in walking distance to the historic centre and the station. Sorry I don't have a specific apartment suggestion.
Like many Italian cities, the area in the immediate proximity to the station is not particularly atmospheric, but not unsafe either.
Enjoy your trip!

The most important is to have a Metro station near you. Also it can be near the railroad station so you will have options of all kinds of transport.
If you rent a car - it's a challenge to park it in Milan (like in any other old city of Italy).
We were there in December and had to park the car for 40 euro a day...

Thanks Anuj, was hoping you’d reply! I know you were in northern Italy last year and have given useful tips to many others.

I guess we could stay at a hotel, but we’re so used to apartments that we find hotel rooms extremely cramped.

We have one free day to fill, what would you suggest? We’re interested in history and culture, enjoy seeing museums and old churches. Thanks again!

In addition to the soccer game and the Last Supper, you could spend time exploring the centre (Duomo, Galleria, the shopping streets), the castle and Sempione park, Brera (also houses the Pinacoteca) and Navigli etc. Don't miss panzerotti at Luini and gelato wherever you find it (Gusto 17, Paganelli, Artico, Terra, Venchi.... I could go on).

Another out of the box idea- a daytrip to delightful Bergamo (easy train access).

And some of our friends had previously stayed here https://www.aparthotelcasamia.com in an apartment, and raved about it. No personal experience but credible source, and good location.

Anuj, thanks for the recommendation, but they had only one room available for my dates.

I just booked this apartment, near the Brera area I think, host says 15mins walk to the Duomo. Please let me know what you thik, it has free cancellation till early May. Thanks 😊

The apartment looks very good, though I cannot claim to be very familiar with this area, south of Brera. You are very close to a metro station, so it should be easy to get around.

Thanks Anuj, am holding on to this for now and will look for other options. But there doesn’t seem to be many 2beds/2baths available in a central location, several with a pull out sofa, etc. We’re too old for this now and want some basic creature comforts.

Am looking for hotels too on booking.com, fingers crossed something suitable shows up. Thanks again for your help, much appreciated!

BTW, I was telling my husband about the vegetarian Michelin star restaurant you mentioned in a different thread, we’ll probably give it a try.
