Metro/transport strikes
Athens metro is on strike for 48 hours on June 16/17th 2010
All other public transportation will not be running between 10am and 5pm on June 17th 2010. They will be running normally on all other days.
For arrival/departure dates of 16/17th both the bus & suburban train are options to/from the airport, apart from the stoppage times on the 17th. Taxis will still be operating.
Friday 18th & Monday 21st are also being considered by the metro workers, not confirmed yet, but I will post on here if anything definite is announced.
Please note, this will not affect anyone outside Athens.

Thanks for keeping us posted here. When one is on a tour, transportation is very important. I would love to take a taxi but there's always a different feeling when you are on a public transport. Cheers!

Thanks melinaki!
I've only just got home & had a chance to check for updates, nice to see someone else checking too, even if it's not good news!
In reality these strikes aren't so bad, the Air traffic Controllers & Ferry strikes create the most havoc. These ones this time are confined to Athens & not all day every time.

Its true, they are not so bad and at least taxis are always running, as you say.
Starting tonight, midnight to midnight, no boats in and out of Piraeus. Now there's a general strike announced for the 29th but no news yet what that means or who else will take part so no panic just yet

actually I was wrong about that, seems now that Boat companies are NOT going to cancel their scheduled routes on Wednesday despite port workers intention for a strike http://www.xpatathens.com/news/22183
