MaureenB, re U Lilie in Prague
I have read your review on U Lilie. I am going there the first week of June. I am a single lady (28)years. I cannot afford much higher accomadation. Is it a fairly safe area and do you think the room # 13 will be OK for 5 days. Or if it were you, would you look for another accomadation.

One nice safety feature of the U Lilie is that they lock the front door at night, so you ring the bell for entrance. Not just anyone can come in that way. We walked every night and returned late without any problem.
It is on a street just around the corner from the Charles Bridge, and we felt it was a safe enough area. It is not a particularly classy or attractive street, has mostly sports bars, etc., but you don't have to walk very far to reach the U Lilie from the main street. I think if you are careful and aware of your surroundings, you will be fine.
I don't have any information about room #13. Ours was up a nice outdoor stairway, then the first one in the hallway, but I don't remember the number. Maybe it was 5 or 7. It was a family suite, so not what you'd want.
The U Lilie is very simple, slightly tattered, but clean. The front door of the U Lilie is nothing to write home about. But as you proceed through the inside, it is actually quite charming. The breakfast spread is all cold stuff, but enough to get you going.
We never ate at their restaurant and didn't see much business there.
Remember they only accept cash payment when you checkout. We forgot to withdraw from the ATM the day before, so got stuck when the ATM wouldn't give enough cash that day to checkout! Good thing we had a back-up ATM card to use. A good thing to remember anytime you travel, I think.
Long answer. If you could find a place at the same price, with newer furnishings, you might be better off, but you can't beat the U Lilie's central location that's for sure.

P.S. Try this website for good information from a Prague local-- http://www.livingprague.com/hotel.htm
He recommends the U Lilie and a few others, and also points out some areas that may be unsafe.

Not at all. It just means you ring the bell and the person at the front desk comes to recognize you and open the door for you. It's just a safety precaution since the front door is not easily visible from the desk, I suppose. I think you would like the U Lilie if you don't mind it's a bit tattered around the edges. It is just about a half block from the main street. And they will arrange a cab for you to and from the airport if you need it. They are quite nice.
