Maribel ,Help Please with Costa Brava
Maribel, I have read some of your helpful posts regarding Costa Brava. You mentioned the Baix Empordà area but I could not find any lodging information. My Husband and I are going to Spain for a week in mid Sept. He will have to work in Barcelona for 2 days. We'd like to visit the sea. Most likely Sun and Mon nights. It is my first time to Spain and I'd like something a bit less touristy. We do however love food and wine. If you or others have suggestions that would be most welcome. We are on a moderate budget. Thanks.

Hi Coskier,
There are so many lodging choices in the Baix Empordá, a "sort of" Catalonia version of Tuscany. I'll refer here to the area to the east, between Figueres and Girona (city).
There are many "hotels of charm" that can be found inland as well as on the coast itself, plus several small, family-run 3 star hotels in the seaside villages of Calella de Palafruguell, Llafranc, Tamariu.
Mid Sept. may still be high season on the coast, so you may find a better tariff at a hotel in the countryside.
Try the following sites for something of character and charm and not at all touristy:
www.innsofspain.com
search under Girona (province of the Baix Empordà
Also www.ruralka.com
Click on Girona, at the very top of the map
These 3 star family run hotels on or above the beach attract a loyal, repeat clientele and also have very nice dining:
in Calella de Palafrugell:
Hotel Garbi
www.hotelgarbi.com
In Llafranc: (which I personally prefer):
Casamar
www.casamar.com
Hotel Llafranch
www.hllfranch.com
Hotel Llevant
www.hotel-llevant.com
Hotel Terramar
www.hterramar.com
In Tamariu:
Hostalillo
www.hotelhostalillo.com
I hope this will get you started.
Regards,
Maribel

Hello,
We had a holiday home in the Baix Empordá for 17 years. Could I recommend the 4* hotel Sa Punta in Platje de Pals (they have a website). This hotel was originally an upmarket restaurant to which a hotel block was added. Spacious comfortable rooms, and excellent food. Oh and they speak English.
