mantova vs. verona
Hello everyone! My family (husband, me, and our 2 daughters who are 3 and 5)are going to Italy for 3 weeks starting mid-May. We're flying into Rome (spending 2 days), then to Tuscany for a week, then to Lake Como for a week, then to Venice for 3 days, returning home from Venice. Between Lake Como (Mennagio) and Venice, we have a full day and a night to kill. People have recommended Verona and Mantova. Any thoughts? Any suggestions on where to stay?
Another piece of advice would be appreciated -- we plan to rent a car for the 2 weeks we'll be in Tuscany and Lake Como (so we'll have a car until we drop it off before Venice). We knew it would be expensive, but does anyone have any insider tips or good agencies to rent a car? Thank you in advance for your help!

We visited both cities, staying in an agriturismo near to Mantova. Both were exciting, with Verona being more so. I suggest you do a Fodors or a Google search for "Agriturismo". (I'm afraid I can't recommend the one we stayed at.)

Thank you for the response! Is it only my computer, or were the first two responses only "t" and "ttt"? I am a little confused... could Ira and Jocelyn re-send? Or is "t" a Fodors symbol that I am not familiar with? Tuck, I will definitely check out those web sites! Thanks!

Hi,
"ttt" is Fodorese for "to the top." "t" is short for "topping." By doing this, it brings your message to the top again so it's easier for others to see. I was interested in seeing some responses to your question as I'll be visiting those cities soon as well. Ira either wanted to follow the thread as well, or was just helping you out.
If you haven't already found the search feature, you can type in any keywords in the search box in the upper left corner (e.g., Verona hotel) and all the threads containing those words will appear on the left.
Have a great trip and I hope your little girls enjoy the unlimited pizza and ice cream!
