Malta/Gozo recommendations.
Has anyone a recent feedback on hotels?
We stayed 10 years ago at the Ta'Cenc in Gozo, but we would like to know if it is still excellent.

On Malta itself, we're hesitating between the Westin Dragonara, Hilton, Crowne Plaza and the Phoenician. Which one would be the best in terms of comfort, quietness and restaurants ?

I am afraid I don't know the hotel in Gozo, But I am staying at Grand Hotel in Mgaar.Gozo at the moment. The hotel, facing the ferry harbour, is 4 stars, fairly new, with extreme spacious, nice and quite bedroom. With bus stop just around the road,it is very convenient for someone using public transportations.

I was in Malta about a year ago and checked out several hotels while I was there. The Phoenician Hotel is right outside the city gates at Valletta and across from the main bus terminus of Malta, which is extremely busy. The Valletta Market, an outdoor flea market,is also right by the gates. It is held on Sundays, and was so thronged with people I could barely move. Once you walk through the city gates, you are on Republic Street, which is the main street of Valletta. Although the Phoenician is a very nice hotel, I don't think it fits your desire for a quiet location (although Valletta is quiet at night).

The Westin Dragonara is in St. Julian's, which is a party area, with lots of nightlife. The hotel, though, sits off to itself on a little promontory, so it is not in the thick of things. It does, however, house a very popular casino.

The Crowne Plaza is also in Sliema, but my recollection is that it is off the main drag (The Strand), so is in a somewhat quiet location, but convenient to restaurants and shopping. I can't comment on the Hilton.

Another hotel you may want to consider is the Radisson Bay Point Resort. It is in a quieter part of St.Julian's than the Dragonara, with views of Gozo.

I enjoyed my stay in Malta, and hope you will too. Have a great trip!

You might try posting a message on www.searchmalta.com. The travel forum is under "Discuss Malta." It is not very active, but I did receive a response to a hotel question I posted, so it's worth a try.

Another option is to go to the Visitor's Book at www.aboutmaltacom. Several people have posted their e-mail addresses there and you can contact them directly with questions. Or you can post a message of your own. (The Visitor's Book is not listed under the main sections; it is in a little box on the right side of the page).
