Mallorca itinary?

Hello
We are couple with 4year kid planning to see Mediterranean for the first time in 1st/2nd week of April.
Our main and only interest is in scenic beauty of the sea.

We will travel from Netherlands and plan to spend 3 and half days
It will be great to know-

1. If the weather is good enough to enjoy the sun?
2. We want to cover some very good views but can not rent a car.
So any itinerary based on that?
3. the flight lands at 1600 hours and return flight is 7am. We do not want to spend for Taxi if that is too expensive and so we can shift base if needed

Lastly we haven't been to Barcelona. Any opinions on trading Mallorca for that?

Thanks
SM

Valencia, Nice, Mallorca, Barcelona...someone must have some suggestions for a weekend stay by the Mediterranean? From which airport in the Netherlands will you be flying?

Malaga. Take a day trip to Granada for the Alhambra.

The weather will be nice but the water will be too cold for swimming. Well, maybe not too cold for a Dutchlander.

How about Malta? There are low airfares from Eindhoven, and lodging is very reasonable. The Strand has a 1 bedroom with sea view available April 11th weekend...or consider the Carlton Hotel.

"Lastly we haven't been to Barcelona. Any opinions on trading Mallorca for that?"

Those are two very different places and whilst there is a beach in Barcelona, most people don't go there for a beach holiday. A four year old will probably get very bored being taken round the various sights in the city.

Mallorca will be quiet in the first week of April and the resorts will be quiet too, indeed some hotels and restaurants may not be open and the weather is unpredictable at that time. It could be warm, it could be wet.

You don't want a car in Barcelona, a car in Mallorca is very useful, especially for such a short trip.

Thanks to all for their suggestions.

Malta is bit out of question now but
will keep that in mind for future.

Rubicund I am more looking for blue-green Mediterranean sea
as I think water will be cold to get in at both the places.

so bit confused!

The water anywhere in the Med will be too cold to get into in the first or second week of April.

Wife and I spent one full month in Mallorca, two years ago. Going to Mallorca started with having booked a cruise from Palma to Miami at exceptionally low cost. Initially we thought of staying one week prior to boarding, than decided for ten days, later on to 15 days and finally for a full month.

We had a car for the full month and stayed at four different hotels, one each week. The last one was in Illetas, nearby Palma, since we wanted to be close to port at our last stay.

I kind of feared we would be bored, but we did not regret one minute having spent the full month in the island.

There is an awful lot of things to see. Dozens, maybe hundred of little "Calas", or small beaches. Caves to see and explore (We visited Cuevas del Drach, near puerto Cristo, which was awsome.

You have mountains: The whole western coast of Mallorca is mountainous, where you can visit Sa Calobra, Valdemossa (Chopin and his mistress spent a full winter in there), Soller, etc...

You will find medieval cities (Valdemossa and Cap de Pera.

Pollensa, on the northwest of the island is quite interesting, and worth a visti.

One of the hotels we stayed was Port de Pollensa, near Pollensa. Very close to it there is an amazing place you can visit called Formentor (google it in order to see some images).

Palma de Mallorca is nice, but the other little cities are amazing.

If you want beaches, as I said, there are hundreds of little Calas.

One of the places we spent a week was the little city of Cala D'Or. It is the most modern of the cities we visited. It is very small and you can do all you wish walking.

Cala Millor is also nice, but if I were to choose just one place I would recommend Cala d'Or. This is somewhere near the southeast of the island.

We were in Barcelona, and frankly speaking, two days in Barcelona is fine, but one month in Mallorca is great.

Any questions, please post and I will try to answer the best way I can.

jfcarli has good suggestions for Mallorca. We spent two days with a rental car enjoying the drive through the mountains to Valdemossa. Besides the beautiful scenery, there are small restaurants perched on the mountain sides where you can dine and enjoy the view. If you enjoy Chopin, there's a free concert in Valdemossa. Enjoy Mallorca!

Thanks. We are thinking of spending 5 nights in early August. We are looking for the town with a really nice beach where we can also go bike riding. We dont want to rent a car and would also like to be able to go out at night to restarants, bars..

Mallorca is a lovely island and when you go there is a great pizza place in a village called Sineu. There is a page about it on this website:

There's this great place we go to near Palma where even our teenage kids love cycling on the tricycles and quadcycles up and down the coast. BikerBob What pizza place are you on about? Is it Tomosini's? I absolutly love that place. Even the spaghetti is good there, really really big portions.
