Malcolm Miller tour - Chartres Cathedral
I have read you can make a reservation with him for the tour and that you just show up in the office for the tour?
Going in March - Has anyone gone on his "tour" recently?
I have read mostly good reviews about him, a few sketchy but they were from a few years ago.

We were on the Malcolm Miller tour 2 years ago. We did not make a reservation - we were able to sign up for the tour when we arrived at the cathedral. It was in May and we had no problem getting in on the next tour.
If you are going to Chartres don't miss this tour. He is great - he tells about so many things in the church that you would overlook or not get the full picture of what you are seeing.

Go on his noon tour if you can. He's usually still fairly sober then. I've never made a reservation, but that doesn't mean it's not advisable. And keep in mind he doesn't do every tour - he has assistants who fill in for him - so if you want to make sure you're getting his tour, it would be advisable to inquire in advance and possibly reserve a spot.

I enthusiastically reserved for his tour. There was not much movement on the tour- a history lesson sitting in the pews. I became restless, and as I recall, ducked out a little early. He is very detailed, and not what I would call humorous. Maybe I was misinformed in what to expect. Chartres is such an exceptional Cathedral and the town is toooo charming!!

Chartres will be a side trip for us from Paris. I look forward to seeing it - from what I have read it looks charming!
I will sign up and see how it goes. He must be getting up in years??
About how long is the tour- i am sure it varies but a rough estimate would be helpful - thanks

I've taken at least a half-dozen MM tours. They were all 45 mins. to an hour long.
I'm not sure what kind of "movement" there can be on a tour that involves "reading the windows," but in any case, I was always enthralled by his explanations of the panels.
