Museum in the Palais Garnier, Paris - how does it work?
I'm planning to go see the Paris Opera Ballet in May. I'll be buying my ticket online beforehand. The performance will start at 7:30 pm.
I also want to see an exhibit being held at the Opera Museum, inside the theater. The Paris Opera website and my guidebook say the museum is open daily 10-5 and admission costs 9 euro.
So it looks like I'll have to visit the theater during the day and pay 9 euros in order to see the museum, and then return that evening for the ballet.
But...for some reason I have it in my head that the museum stays open until 7pm on performance nights and that you can just use your ballet ticket to gain admission. Meaning you could go to the theater a bit early on the night of your performance, see the exhibits, and then go find your seat without paying any extra admission fees.
I can't seem to find anything to verify this so I'm wondering if I made it up. I've been doing searches but it's tough slogging through old posts and trip reports (wish we had a highlight search word function)
Can anyone help me out with this?

I've seen two (well, one and a half) exhibits at Palais Garnier but am not sure if what I saw was the museum or some other part of the theater. The time I went to a ballet when the Callas jewelry exhibit was on, one big room was closed off for some VIP reception, so only part of the exhibit was open to the rest of the audience.

Thanks Fifi, I should have thought of doing that. I think I will email them. This is for the Ballet Russe exhibit, which apparently is quite extensive. The Blue Guide says the museum is in the Rotonde de l'Empereur to the left of the Grand Staircase. I can barely remember any of the lobby area because when I went in April 08 I was almost late for the show and had to run to my seat.

Apres, re your comment <i>"(wish we had a highlight search word function)"</i>
Have you tried using your computer's own find function?
<b>CTRL F</b> on mine quickly takes one to specified text.
I agree it'd be great if this were part of Fodor's search capability.

I've been in that museum, such as it is. It's not a grand museum or anything. But I was there during the day as part of a tour of the building. It's included in the ticket for a visit to the building during the day.
Never heard of it being open late when there are performances. I've been there for a lot of performances, and sometimes get there early, and don't ever remember seeing it open, but I wasn't particularly looking for it, either.

FYI, I did find that it was open and included in the ticket for a performance during the Gounod exhibition last Sept-Oct. However, that special opening was specifically mentioned on their website in the description of the exhibition, so since it doesn't say that for this one, I would say probably not. No harm in asking, however.
