making a train
I am visiting Italy for the first time and am arriving in Florence but have to travel to Pisa to where my conference is being held. I am taking the train to Pisa but don't know how long it will take to pick up my suitcases, go through customs and get to the train station. I need to make train reservations and don't want to miss my train. What happens if I do miss my train, is the ticket transferrable? Any help would be great thanks

I have never landed at Florence airport, but I have picked up baggage there. It's quite a small airport with no trans-atlantic flights arriving there, so I suspect you will be in and out of there very quickly.
I would imagine that you will need to get from Florence airport back INto the city to catch a train to Pisa. Cab ride is probably only 15 minutes, if that long.
I really doubt that you need to make reservations ahead of time for this route - - probably runs all the time. You can check schedules on www.trenitalia.com
A reserved SEAT is not refundable nor recyclable, but the right to ride the train (which need not include the right to have a seat) is always "transferable" (recyclable).
Best wishes,
Rex

Flornce airport is very small, it will take about half an hour from landing to Station S.M.N. by taxi(it is short distance),or by bus (takes longer).
Trains from Florence S.M.N.to Pisa are regional trains,no reservation allowed or required, depart every half an hour or an hour, take about 70 minutes. If you miss one train, just wait for the next one. Please check Trenitalia.it for details.
