Breyer's makes a contraption that they CALL a Magnum Bar. It's not at all the same thing, of course, even though it does have 20 grams of fat. If there were real, British Magnum Bars in the US, or planned to be in the US, then Breyers wouldn't have been able to use the name cuz the British Magnum people would have trademarked the name in the US. I'm every bit as disappointed as you are; there's a Breyers wrapper in my England scrapbook.

Magnum is made by Unilever, who trade as Good Humor Breyers in the US.
The "British" (actually 60% British, 40% Dutch) Magnum people are vey unlikely to inhibit Breyer US from launching the product in the US.

The likelihood is that Breyer were doing what their London bosses told them.

Unilever frequently tailor products to countries. In the late 80's there were over a hundred diferent versions of Cornetto around the world.

Thanks for the info I went to the unilever web site and got these intresting facts :
Wall's Magnum is firmly established as the UK's and the world's best-selling ice cream brand. The product was originally launched in the UK in 1989, with the Wall's Magnum name, shape and stick, but was without a real chocolate coating. Its re-launch in 1990 with a real chocolate coating saw sales take off.

Each year, Wall's sells enough Wall's Magnums to go round the world four and a half times, with a total of 110 Wall's Magnums being sold every minute in the UK alone. The brand's success has continued with innovations such as the launches of Wall's Magnum Double Caramel in 1998 and Magnum Double Chocolate in 1999. Both were number one performing products in the entire ice cream market.
