What do the ones on the Gran Via look like (in particular, near Plaza Callao)? They hadn't turned them on as of Thursday the 27th and I was disappointed to miss them.

I like the ones on Calle P-something that goes by FNAC and El Corte Ingles up from the Puerta del Sol.

Calle Preciados - I'd love to see them -- we stayed at the end of CP in August.

Hi lin,
Yep, they do keep getting better and better, as well as being put up earlier and earlier (as early as Nov.5 when we arrived).

But 3 Christmas seasons ago, on our New Year's trip to Valencia, we were really, really impressed with your city's super bright Xmas lights! They seemed to pale in comparison to Madrid's that year. Would love to do a post Xmas trip to your beautiful hometown again. Sigh!

i was in madrid last week for a confernece and they "tested" the lights in the afternoon on saturday, (which i didn't get to see) so we asked our taxi to take us on a tour after dinner to puerta alcalá, castellana/cibles, and.... no lights!

they had turned them off after three hours or so. the taxi driver was surprised, too.

the official beginning was december 1st, i guess. so.. i'll just have to go back! They showed them on telelvision and frankly, some of them were a work of art.(each street is done by a different renown designer..agata ruiz, etc.)

maybe someone has the coolest streets on youtube.

and maribel, please let me know if/when you come back to valencia or nearby. would love to meet you after enjoying absorbing all your knowledge here! we are so lucky!!!
