One possibility is The Grove, 35 minutes from the center of London on 300 acres of parkland. They have a spa and an 18-hold golf course. Virtuoso rates are 224£ for a Superior, 288£ for a Deluxe, 335£ for a Superior Mansion, and 440£ for a Deluxe Mansion (+VAT). With Virtuoso, you also get a daily buffet breakfast and one complimentary lunch.
Another possibility is Stoke Park Club, 8 miles from LHR and 30 minutes from London's West End. Smaller, they have 20 bedrooms and a 27-hole golf course (Stoke Poges Golf Club). Virtuoso rates are 210£ for a Club room, 248£ for an Executive room, and 307£ for a Jr. Suite (+VAT). With Virtuoso, you also get a full breakfast for two and 20% off spa treatments.

How is this advertising? I'm just providing information in response to the question the OP asked. These are hotels that offer *exactly* what Ellene wanted (golf and spa) and the room types that were within her price range (under 450£
.
If you knew of a way that she could save money and get a better value, why wouldn't you pass it along? Lots of posters on this forum recommend hotels and share how they got the best deals.
Ellene, you can book this through any Virtuoso TA.

"How is this advertising?"
Here's how:
"Ellene, you can book this through any Virtuoso TA."
Extraordinary, isn't it, how many of your recommendations lead to a mention of Virtuoso?
And what a bizarre coincidence that you promote Virtuoso on your blog?
Your cover's blown. Now stop it, or we'll ALL get irritated

Flanneruk, there are over 7,000 Virtuoso TAs in the world. What possible benefit is it to me if the OP contacts Virtuoso and gets referred to an agent in her locale? Answer: none. The OP, on the other hand, will end up with a better value than I see online for The Grove or Stoke Park Club.
There is nothing inherently wrong about providing information that helps posters evaluate their options. Fodor's is all about sharing resources that members have used, such as venere, priceline, tripadvisor, raileurope (which are all on-line TAs, btw). Posters frequently mention properties, share how they have booked them (online, by phone, by fax, by email), quote prices and what amenities they were able to get, etc. What I'm sharing is in the same vein.
You find it "extraordinary" that some of my postings (only 7 of the last 50, btw) recommend Virtuoso and "bizarre" that my blog "promotes" Virtuoso. Why? Virtuoso is simply a consortium that I believe offers compelling values to luxury travelers. Why would anyone want to withhold information about a potentially better price or set of amenities? I simply state the facts, and readers are free to do the price comparisons and come to their own conclusions. I think that's a positive contribution to an online travel forum.
I do not identify myself professionally in this forum, advertise any services, or for that matter get anything other than an occasional non-commercial communication from other members. If it helps demonstrate my sincerity, I have changed my profile and "hidden" my email address from being displayed on my posts.

Ellene,
One luxury hotel that springs immediately to mind would be Pennyhill Park in Surrey (out to the west of London near Ascot, Windsor and Sunningdale). I've attended a few company conferences here and as I recall they have their own golf course and spa. It's way outside my budget, but should come in under £450.
